Innovative teaching occurs when the learners experience new teaching processes, methods and strategies in the classroom settings. It is provided to students to promote their academic learning and enable their personal growth.

Importance of innovative teaching

Innovative teaching methods are necessary to execute innovative education and to help learners understand and solve modern-day challenges, break ineffective social constructs, and grow towards a sustainable future. Innovation in education aims to bring about improvement, but these changes will considerably benefit a school’s or classroom’s learning.

Benefits of innovative teaching for learners

  • Provides a learner-centered environment: Innovative teaching provides two-way learning. Students can share their thoughts and opinions on particular topics with their peers and teachers. A teacher’s work is to guide and support the quest for student ideas.
  • It boosts creativity and problem-solving skills in students: Innovative teaching provides the challenges and corresponding circumstances simulated in the classroom using various instructional approaches. It enables the students to solve their problems and improve their creativity; as they start trying to take on new challenges, they use different ideas to overcome the issues and challenges.
  • Nurture thought processes: Through innovative teaching, the learners develop high-order thinking skills. It forms the students’ capacity to think beyond the box.
  • Enhancement of Analytical Skills: The instructor is a classroom facilitator for students to learn independently. Synthesizing the material provided by the teacher enables them to increase their level of topic knowledge. The student assembles all components in the same way as a jigsaw puzzle. As a result, he progresses from a basic to a more detailed understanding.
  • Develops self-understanding in learners: Innovative learning helps the learners understand their strengths and weaknesses so they can easily tackle the problem and find possible solutions to overcome obstacles.

How a teacher helps the learners with teaching strategies to actively engage them.

Teaching strategies encourage students to use their creativity to explore deeply when encountering the lesson’s content. The students actively participate in the learning and can work with their peers in collaborative groups to expand their knowledge. Many strategies take students to levels of learning they never imagined. These strategies are:

  • Project-based learning: Problem-based learning engages students to think critically, teamwork and self-management about resolving student’s problems. It allows the students to use new technology, making teaching and learning more effective and rewarding.
  • Asking open-ended questions to students: Teachers should promote lively in-class discussions by asking open-ended questions with multiple possible solutions. It can help the students not just to find their voice but also to represent themselves and support their reasoning.
  • Provide a flexible learning environment: Many classrooms still have packed, disorganized, and noisy settings that make it hard for learners to move about, inducing communication breakdowns and other barriers to attention and understanding. Learning environments should support fluidity to foster one-on-one learning, cooperation, free-thinking, and group discussions.
  • Induce inquiry-based learning: Students’ cognitive talents can help them better understand all subjects while discovering relevance to everyday life. Students are free to form their own opinions on what they are studying, enabling them to develop a more excellent knowledge of a subject than through rote memorization and recalling data.
  • Meet them with engaging classroom activities: Ensure the activity has some personal meaning or allows students to demonstrate their knowledge. When students feel connected with the activity, they will better engage and establish an emotional connection with other students, which gives them something new to explore.

Innovative learning allows students to solve problems, challenge themselves, and present their findings to others. Student engagement is constructed on curiosity, interest, passion, and attention, enabling them to succeed in every field of life.
